Byrd has 16 years of experience in legal work (including experience in lawyers, legal affairs, legal compliance team management and DPO).
Before joining Gaopeng & Partners in 2024, Byrd served as a partner in Global Law Firm, focusing on cross-border e-commerce, enterprise going global, enterprise digital transformation legal compliance and legal technology, data privacy protection compliance design.
From 2014 to 2022, Byrd served as the deputy general counsel of McDonald's China, a top 500 foreign company in the world, and the general counsel of MeetSocial Group, a leading company in the overseas marketing industry; During his 8 years of work in the company's legal department, Byrd's legal compliance risk control and platform governance issues in the process of enterprise digital transformation (including the digital transformation field of various non-digital economy native enterprises such as marketing and sales, strategic decision-making, store operation, supply chain, procurement, legal department and background departments).  Byrd has accumulated rich experience in the fields of Legal BP support, digital security and privacy protection, game App e-commerce and brand compliance and risk management.
From 2007 to 2014, Byrd worked in AllBright Law Offices and SNR Denton, an American law firm, and accumulated rich experience in private equity investment, post-investment legal business, foreign direct investment, real estate and trade financing in TMT industry.

  • To organize and coordinate export cross-border e-commerce sellers, industry associations, domestic and foreign law firms, legal technology companies, professional service providers, media, think tanks, etc., to establish and operate the "Overseas Rights and Interests Protection Plan for Small and Medium-sized Enterprises" focusing on the field of cross-border e-commerce at sea, and to organize and operate more than 10000 cross-border e-commerce sellers by means of legal technology and digitalization.

  • With more than US $100 million in recourse, domestic and foreign lawyers were organized to initiate collective arbitration, batch arbitration, government complaints, alternative dispute resolution procedures and other comprehensive overseas rights and interests protection actions in multiple jurisdictions to the e-commerce platform and online payment platform with the highest global market share, so as to safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese SMEs overseas.

  • To assist cross-border e-commerce sellers and a number of multinational e-commerce platforms in handling disputes over the closure or deduction of their stores and accounts in North America and Europe, and to appeal and negotiate with the platforms;

  • Assist cross-border e-commerce sellers to respond to the case that their stores on the U.S. e-commerce platform are sued by a third party for intellectual property infringement and their accounts are frozen by TRO, and work with U.S. lawyers to win the plaintiff's withdrawal or settlement on favorable terms for customers, and unseal the accounts and account funds.

  • Provide investment and financing, foreign investment filing ODI services, domestic capital compliance exit services, overseas capital compliance entry services for a number of offshore customers;

  • Provide GDPR compliance management services for China's offshore travel booking technology service providers and SaaS offshore enterprises, and provide compliance consultation and compliance digital operation suggestions for the establishment of their global data privacy compliance system;

  • For customers in the process of cross-border digital trade services, various debt restructuring schemes are designed for overseas US dollar outstanding claims of cross-border e-commerce customers (some of which are not guaranteed by domestic enterprises or actual controllers). Comprehensive use of litigation, arbitration, property preservation, legal collection, debt-to-equity swap, criminal and civil overlapping, business restructuring, optimization of operation, disposal of non-performing assets, commercial factoring, judicial restructuring and other means.

  • Participate in the development or deployment of digital operation systems (systems, templates, technologies, personnel, management processes, etc.) involving legal compliance risk management scenarios such as intelligent contract management and review, batch case management, large-scale intellectual property monitoring and rights protection, legal department service robots based on GPT and generative AI, and privacy protection operation platforms;
